The B1/B2 Certification Exam in Belarusian as a Foreign Language at the University of Warsaw

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the topic of certification exams in Belarusian as a foreign language at the B1 and B2 proficiency levels. This subject is directly related to didactics in higher education institutions and is particularly relevant due to the fact that Belarusian language certification as a foreign language is available outside Belarus in only one European institution —the University of Warsaw. The article presents factual information rather than analysis. Its main objective is to familiarize a broad audience with the format and structure of the certification exam in Belarusian as a foreign language that is conducted at the University of Warsaw. The paper describes the individual sections of the exam, their structure, format, and scoring. Following the main text of the article, a sample exam at the B1 level is provided. In the conclusion, the author presents arguments in favor of developing language certification to promote the Belarusian language not only in Europe but also worldwide.
